Embracing the Spectrum of Spring

Spring—a season that paints our world in the hues of hope and continuity—is as paradoxical as it is inspiring. This is an invitation to explore the full emotional and symbolic spectrum of spring. This season, often synonymous with joy and renewal, equally evokes deep sentimentality and introspective sadness. This dual nature of spring is captured in artistic expressions across history and culture, reflecting the nuanced human experience of rebirth.

The legendary jazz song "Spring Can Really Hang You Up the Most" by Ella Fitzgerald and Mary Oliver’s poem, “Spring Azures,” are prime examples of this emotional complexity. While Fitzgerald’s soulful voice communicates the melancholy hidden beneath the surface of rebirth, Oliver’s words contrast the beauty of nature with the darkness of the human spirit. These pieces remind us that renewal is often intertwined with reflection and melancholy, offering a deeper, more textured interpretation of the season.

In mythology, spring deities like the Greek goddess Persephone and the Japanese goddess Konohanasakuya-hime symbolize rebirth and the cyclical nature of life and death. These stories form the bedrock of our cultural understanding of spring, illustrating the interconnectedness of growth and decay—a powerful metaphor for artists to explore.

Continually pushing the limits of artistic expression, she invites audiences to explore her vivid, emotionally rich, and imaginatively deep artworks.
Annita Apostolidou Platis, a distinguished Greek painter based in Athens, is renowned for her dynamic use of color and form. Starting her artistic journey at eight under the tutelage of Dimitris Kantopoulos, her diverse education includes fashion and jewelry design at the Marangoni Institute in Milan and studies in interior design. Fluent in four languages, Annita's work is influenced by Art Nouveau, Art Deco, and Surrealism, blending historical and contemporary elements. In 2016, she refocused on fine arts, using acrylics, ink, and impasto, and exploring mixed media digital collage. Her 2018 website launch propelled her into exhibitions, showcasing her talents in painting, fashion, jewelry design, and poetry. Globally recognized, Annita has received numerous awards, including honors from the Accademia Italia In Arte Nel Mondo and the Fondazione Costanza. Her vivid, emotionally rich artworks push the boundaries of contemporary art, affirming her status as a true polymath.

the soul of the rose

I like to work from within, which means I don't depict what directly surrounds me, but rather I focus on the most cherished inner feelings of humans. I try to uncover a world that remains untouched, a world that the human mind, eager to interpret everything, has not yet imposed its categories and "templates" upon. I attempt to bring to life a world that is neither morally right nor wrong, but simply exists in its own twisting, self-sustained manner. I work with airbrush techniques, enjoying the possibilities it offers. My painting titled "The Soul of the Rose" was inspired by my wife. This piece has been featured in several solo and group exhibitions.

I am also drawn to the world of photography, especially works created through double exposure. This concept inspired me to create my wife's portrait in a somewhat unique way: embedded in a rose. I've always loved blending living and non-living things, blurring the boundaries between the conscious and the unconscious, so the idea of embedding a beautiful woman's face in a flower, specifically a rose, came naturally to me.

The background of the portrait consists of a honeycomb-like texture. I often return to the symbolism of bees, as I am fascinated by their sense of purpose and dedication to the common good. I work full-time as a nurse in a nursing home, where I daily confront the physical and mental decline of people. I feel that today's society devalues the older generation because they no longer bring profit and are seen as a burden, merely consuming resources. The professionals who care for them have also somehow become "disfavored" along with them. This is partly why I sometimes escape to the theme of bees; in their world, there are no useless individuals, no corruption, no crime. They work together with unified purpose towards a higher goal.

Subconsciously, I placed my wife's portrait in a safe, nurturing, supportive, family-like environment, further emphasized by the protective embrace of the red rose petals, shielding her from the harmful forces of the outside world. I used both warm and cool colors. This painting is among my works that have "outgrown" my monochrome period. Initially, I painted exclusively in black and white, not placing much emphasis on colors, focusing instead on the inner emotional message. Nowadays, I enjoy creating on canvas, which I prime with gesso and then acrylic paint in multiple layers. I did the same in this case, creating a surface and texture that pre-established the world and environment of the theme. I work with compatible paints: I spray specialized acrylic paint onto the acrylic base using an airbrush.

A rózsa lelke

Szeretek belülről dolgozni, ami azt jelenti, hogy nem azt ábrázolom, ami közvetlenül körbe vesz, hanem inkább az ember legféltettebb belső érzéseivel foglalkozom. Egy olyan világot próbálok feltárni, ami még érintetlen, amire még nem nyomta rá a mindent értelmezni akaró emberi elme a megértéshez szükséges kategóriáit, „sablonjait”. Egy olyan világot próbálok életre kelteni, ami erkölcsi értelemben sem nem helyes, sem nem helytelen, csak úgy tekergőzik, egzisztál önmagában. Airbrush technikával dolgozom, szeretem a benne rejlő lehetőségeket. A rózsa lelke c. festményemet a feleségem ihlette. Ez az alkotás több önálló és csoportos kiállításon szerepelt. Közel áll hozzám a fotók világa, leginkább azok a munkák, amiket dupla expozíciós fényképezéssel hoznak létre. Ez az ötlet indított el engem abba az irányba, hogy megalkossam a feleségem portréját egy picit különlegesebb módon: egy rózsába ágyazva. Mindig is szerettem élő és élettelen dolgokat egybe olvasztani, tudatos és tudattalan közötti határokat elmosni, így adta magát az ötlet, hogy egy szép női arcot beleágyazok egy virágba, történetesen egy rózsa virágába.

A portré hátterét méhsejt-szerű textúra alkotja. Időnként vissza-vissza nyúlok a méhek szimbólikájához, ugyanis elbűvöl a céltudatosságuk, kitartásuk a közjó érdekében. Főállásban ápolóként dolgozom egy idősek otthonában. Napi szinten szembesülök az ember testi és mentális leépülésével. Valahol úgy érzem, hogy a mai társadalom számára az idősebb generáció értéktelen, hiszen már nem hoz hasznot, csak nyűg, hiszen csak viszi a pénzt…Az őket ápoló és gondozó szakemberek is valamilyen módon „kegyvesztettekké” váltak velük együtt. Valahol, ezért is menekülök a méhek témájához olykor, hiszen az ő világukban nincs felesleges egyén, nincs korrupció, visszaélés, bűnözés…Egységesen törekszenek, dolgoznak
egy magasabb cél érdekében. Tudat alatt a feleségem portréját is egy biztonságos, gondoskodó, támogató, családias közegbe igyekeztem elhelyezni, amit még fokoz a vörös rózsa védelmező szirmainak ölelése, mintegy megóvva a külvilág ártó erőitől. Hideg és meleg színekkel dolgoztam. Ez a festmény már azon munkáim egyike, amely „túlnőtt” a monokróm időszakomon.

Kezdetben ugyanis csupán fekete-fehér alkotásokat festettem, nem kimondottan fektettem túl nagy hangsúlyt a színekre, inkább a belső érzelmi mondanivalóra koncentráltam. Mostanság előszeretettel alkotok vászonra, amit gesso-val, majd akril festékkel alapozok le több rétegben. Ebben az esetben is ezt tettem. Ezzel egy olyan felületet, textúrát hoztam létre, amivel már előre megteremtettem a téma világát, környezetét. Egymással kompatibilis festékekkel dolgozom: akril alapra fújom a festékszóró pisztollyal porlasztott speciális akril festéket.

Art delves into the deepest corners of the human soul, aiming to resonate with the intrinsic feelings that define the human experience. 
György Sütő was born in 1979 in Senta, then part of Yugoslavia. From a young age, he had a passion for drawing and painting, aiming to pursue this professionally. In 2005, he enrolled at the Kaposvár University of the Arts to become an art teacher but had to drop out after a year due to financial difficulties. This led to a significant hiatus in his artistic endeavors. A turning point in György's life came in the summer of 2016 when he met his future wife, whose unwavering support enabled him to reignite his passion for art.

Since 2017, he has been a member of the Tapolca City Art Circle and, from 2022, also a member of the t’ARS Christian Art Workshop. György specializes in airbrush techniques, drawn to the unique possibilities this medium offers. Currently, György works as a nurse in a nursing home, he often channels the emotional weight of his caregiving experiences into his artwork, exploring themes of human vulnerability and resilience. His creations frequently draw from the intense emotions and events within the nursing home walls.

Elegía y la Insoportable Levedad

La elegía busca dar forma pictórica a la poética de la lamentación, es una imagen que muestra los estertores de una mirada que contempla los espacios vacíos de su propia existencia. Es la álgida contemplación de un cuerpo estoico en apariencia, de cuyo pecho, cual espacio longincuo, brotan unidos cuerpo y alma, la exégesis de la existencia; pero es la profundidad de su mirada la que nos arranca de nuestra taciturna intrinsiqueza. En sus ojos llenos de melancolía nos reflejamos como una sombra que acecha, que se niega a la acinesia.

La insoportable levedad es el verismo de una silueta oscura, es el misterio que recubre el cuerpo silente, enclaustrado en sus más profundos anhelos, pero expectante ante una atmósfera taciturna. Es un cuerpo espectral esgrafiado en las perennes columnas de una ciudad sin nombre, que como ellas permanecerán eternamente, ante la inocuidad de una mirada que se pierde en el tiempo.

elegy and the unbearable lightness

The elegy seeks to give pictorial form to the poetics of lamentation; it is an image that displays the gasps of a gaze contemplating the empty spaces of its own existence. It is the chilling contemplation of a stoic body, seemingly unyielding, from whose chest, like a distant space, body and soul emerge united, the exegesis of existence; yet it is the depth of its gaze that wrenches us from our taciturn intrinsicness. In its eyes, filled with melancholy, we see ourselves reflected like a lurking shadow, refusing acquiescence.

The unbearable lightness is the realism of a dark silhouette, the mystery veiling the silent body, confined within its deepest longings, yet expectant amidst a somber atmosphere. It is a spectral body etched against the enduring columns of a nameless city, which like them will remain eternal, in the insignificance of a gaze lost in time.

Mauricio Garcia Vega (born December 21, 1944), an acclaimed artist hailing from Mexico, breathes life into canvases that have graced exhibitions both nationally and in Argentina. His art transcends mere depiction, with landscapes, portraits, and fauna serving as conduits to the very essence of painting itself.

Vega sees drawing as the cornerstone of his artistic expression, providing a structural foundation from which he explores both figurative and abstract realms. Each stroke becomes a pathway, guiding him towards the heart of his subjects, whether they manifest as tangible forms or ethereal abstractions.

la libertad, la fotografía y yo

Creo que desde las épocas de las cavernas y aunque el hombre no lo supiera, ansiaba y necesitaba de ella. La noche y la oscuridad eran su cárcel y sus miedos se multiplicaban. La luz y el calor del sol le permitían explorar y conocer el mundo al que había llegado y aunque no supiera como nombrar ese sentimiento o sensación, eso estaba ahí.
El fuego le dio el calor y la luz necesaria en su cárcel nocturna y pudo plasmar con sus manos y con sus dedos en las paredes de la caverna, algo de sus vivencias, de sus necesidades.

Sin saberlo, el arte dejo testimonio. Elegí muy joven a la fotografía, tal vez inspirado por un maestro compatriota, Pedro Luis Raota. Conocí algunos maestros destacados y algunas de sus frases inspiradoras y encontré en el ejercicio fotográfico una herramienta para darle rienda suelta a mi intención de crear y expresar. Con el tiempo he comprendido que todo el arte a lo largo de la historia ha estado retratando y plasmando al hombre y su búsqueda.

Así en las grandes épicas de la historia y también en las paredes de las mazmorras más oscuras, hay expresiones artísticas de libertad. Los fotógrafos han sido, son y serán testigos del transcurrir humano y cada uno tendrá su particular punto de vista. Creo que todas las ramas de la fotografía son importantes y pueden retratar al mundo, a la vida en general y al hombre en particular. En mi parecer la fotografía cobra más “fuerza” cuando de alguna manera la presencia humana está plasmada explícita o implícitamente. Finalmente quisiera dejarles lo que expreso en mi presentación en algunas redes sociales: “quienes hacemos fotografía, aprendemos a ver el mundo permanentemente a través de un rectángulo, procurando ver lo extraordinario, donde todos ven lo ordinario”.

freedom, photography and me

I believe that since the times of the caves, even though man may not have known it, he longed for and needed it. The night and darkness were his prison, and his fears multiplied. The light and warmth of the sun allowed him to explore and understand the world he had entered, and although he did not know how to name that feeling or sensation, it was there.
Fire gave him the warmth and light necessary in his nocturnal prison, and he was able to imprint with his hands and fingers on the walls of the cave, some of his experiences, some of his needs.

Unbeknownst to him, art left its testimony. I chose photography at a very young age, perhaps inspired by a fellow countryman, Pedro Luis Raota. I met some outstanding masters and some of their inspiring phrases, and I found in photographic exercise a tool to unleash my intention to create and express. Over time, I have come to understand that all art throughout history has been portraying and capturing man and his quest.

Thus, in the great epics of history and also on the walls of the darkest dungeons, there are artistic expressions of freedom. Photographers have been, are, and will be witnesses to the human passage, and each will have their particular point of view. I believe that all branches of photography are important and can portray the world, life in general, and man in particular. In my opinion, photography gains more 'strength' when in some way human presence is explicitly or implicitly depicted. Finally, I would like to leave you with what I express in my presentation on some social networks: 'those of us who do photography, learn to see the world permanently through a rectangle, trying to see the extraordinary, where everyone sees the ordinary.'

hICESTORY

Shortly after the Bloody November of 2019 in Iran, which was a very important page in the contemporary history of this country, the world started to face the global disaster of the Covid-19 pandemic when we all had to quarantine in 2020. In the middle of all that, my father was diagnosed with cancer. Within that despair and loneliness I was feeling more than ever as an artist and as a human, I found myself creating a series of artworks in ice named "hICEstory".

“Ice is the solid form/state of water that its freezing temperature decreases with increasing pressure.”

As in these artworks were in isolation too, I put some images of history or significant events in water and froze them into special ice forms that I aimed for and then capture each new photo in front of my lens. They were frozen just like the world we were living in but still breathing or being so hard at some point.
Amongst those images and events that I researched and studied on, one of the things that was always on my mind and I was witnessing everyday since my childhood in the society and in the world, was women and their role through history and life.

hICESTORY

Recently in 2022 and still an ongoing one, the murder of an innocent 22 year old girl in Iran broke everything that was held back from people - specially women - and set free, and formed a new movement rooted in continuation of years of protests. This is the time when courageous young women and men stand together for “woman, life, freedom”. When they all fight for a brighter future and a freedom they are after for years.

Women always had a bold role in the course of the events that happened in history of Iran and throughout the last 44 years since the islamic government is in power, people’s and women’s freedom became a prisoner in every corner.

Armin Amirian, born in 1995 in Iran, is a self-taught artist whose journey began in his teenage years. Despite pursuing an education in Physics, his passion for art led him to explore various genres and mediums, particularly photography and cinema. His artistic vision blossomed with the introduction of a camera into his life, marking the beginning of his professional career.

Over the years, Armin has left a significant mark on the global art scene, contributing to over 100 festivals and exhibitions worldwide. Armin's talent has earned him numerous prestigious awards, including the Award of Excellence from Fletcher Exhibit USA (2020), the Young Author Award from the Spanish Railways Foundation (2018), and the Golden Medal of Asahi Shimbun (Japan 2015).

Весна - пора розквіту та відродження, втілення бажань та пробудження внутрішньої енергії. А для художника це ще й чудова можливість надихнутися красою та ніжним ароматом весняних квітів. Дивлячись на ці яскраві кольори та витончені форми, так хочеться якнайкраще передати усе на полотні. Бажання увіковічити красу, яка ніколи не зав'яне.

Люди не раз говорили, що мої картини випромінюють потужну світлу енергію. А значить їх має побачити якомога більше людей, нехай душі відчують терапевтичний ефект. Фестиваль-виставка, це прекрасна можливість поділитися зі світом власною творчістю та ідеями.

Коли митець отримує визнання, позитивні відгуки, пропозиції - це дає сили рухатись і творити далі. Відчуття, що живеш не дарма, що у когось картини викликають посмішку. І тоді створюєш ще більше краси, іще більше людей отримує хороший настрій. Також величезне бажання представляти Україну на світовій арені через мистецтво.

Spring unfurls as a season of blooming and rebirth, a manifestation of aspirations and the stirring of inner vitality. For an artist, it embodies an enchanting juncture to draw inspiration from the splendor and delicate fragrances of spring blossoms. Enveloped in the vivid hues and graceful contours, there arises an innate urge to capture the essence of this ephemeral beauty upon the canvas, to immortalize a fleeting moment in time.

Whispers abound of the profound positivity emanating from my artworks, urging to be witnessed by a myriad of souls, allowing them to bask in the therapeutic embrace. Hence, it becomes imperative to share these creations with as wide an audience as possible, ensuring that hearts are touched and spirits uplifted.

A festival-exhibition serves as an extraordinary platform to disseminate one's creativity and ideals to the world. The recognition, accolades, and opportunities bestowed upon an artist serve as catalysts, propelling them forward to continue crafting beauty. It is the profound realization that one's existence holds purpose, that their creations can elicit smiles and evoke joy in others. Thus, the cycle of inspiration perpetuates, as beauty begets beauty, and positivity permeates the world.

Moreover, there exists an ardent aspiration to represent Ukraine on the global stage through the medium of art, showcasing its rich cultural heritage and indomitable spirit to the world.

Natalia was born on December 18, 1987, in Vatutine, Cherkasy Oblast, Ukraine. She has a Master's Degree in Psychology/Social Work from Eastern Ukrainian University. As an art therapist and dedicated volunteer, she has organized and participated in several events such as, Women Leaders Camp, supported by the UN Women project, Paraolympic Sports Center, Syanky, August 2023, led by Lesya Vasilyivna Perepechenko, "Dnipro Waves" Festival, Kaniv, 2021, by the NGO "Revival", "Impossible Possible" event by the Mission for Serving the Blind, Kropyvnytskyi, 2018-19. Natalia is a truth-seeking artist with a keen sense of justice and a fervent desire to change the world for the better, despite being visually impaired. Her acrylic paintings, crafted in a style of romantic realism, serve as conduits for the beauty she perceives, inspiring joy in others.
